Donating Books
Guidelines for Donating Books and other Materials
Thank you for supporting the Lake County Library through your donations. If you are interested in making a monetary donation please contact the main branch at 707-263-8817.
The library accepts donations of usable books, DVDs, and CDs for both adults and children. The materials should be in excellent to very good condition.
To donate materials, please call the library first to see if they have space to accept donations. You can then drop them off at the library during regular hours. Do not leave donations outside after hours or in library book drops.
Due to space limitations, we normally cannot accept more than two boxes or bags at one time. Please take your boxes or bags with you when you donate.
The library first looks at your donations to see if we can use them in the library collection and then passes any remaining books onto the Friends of the Library or Better World Books to sell at book sales, the proceeds of which help the library buy new books. What is most useful to the library is new books and DVDs that have been published within the last 3 to 5 years.
The library cannot use the following: magazines (including National Geographic), catalogs, Reader's Digest Condensed Books, software, textbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, moldy items, water-damaged items, dirty/dusty items, or items with torn or missing pages.
To recycle materials that cannot be donated to the library, contact Lake County Waste Solutions, 230 Soda Bay Road, Lakeport, CA 95453 at 707-234-6400 or 888-718-4888.
