About the library

The Lake County Library has four convenient locations: the main branch in Lakeport, the largest branch in Clearlake, the newest branch in Middletown, and our historic branch in Upper Lake. The library's main activities are to provide materials to the public free of charge for their informational, recreational and cultural needs, to provide free Internet access via wifi and our public computers, and to promote reading, literacy and lifelong learning through a variety of programs and events.

The library is funded primarily through a local property tax approved by voters in 1974. Library materials are funded primarily through donations from the Friends of the Lake County Library, the Friends of Middletown Library, and individual community members. A small grant from the California State Library and donations from the Lake County Literacy Coalition fund the Adult Literacy Program.
